SOC Walk - Support Our Circle

You can join in the fun and help us raise funds to support this amazing program that benefits more than 2,300 students in nearly 50 schools.  As walkers walk the concourse inside INTRUST Bank Arena they can enjoy live entertainment, face painting, beading, buddy photo booth, autographs and more.  The walk concludes with a special activity and lunch.

  • Join a school team or create your own with your family/friends/neighbors
  • Set a team or individual goal and raise funds on your own "Fundraising Page"
  • Make a donation for Circle of Friends and help us change lives.

The 6th Annual SOC Walk is The Arc's fundraiser for the Circle of Friends peer mentoring program that matches special education students with their regular education peers to create an environment of acceptance and support.  All students benefit from increased tolerance, understanding, acceptance, and most importantly, friendships.

What Is Circle of Friends?

The Circle of Friends program matches special education students with regular education peers to create an environment of acceptance and support. Each of the students with disabilities is paired with 1 to 2 peer buddies who do not participate in special education classes.

The Arc supports activities held at the individual schools and also hosts seven activities each year, inviting all the schools to gather at various locations in the community, such as park and recreation centers, skating rinks and Tanganyika Wildlife Park. These activities focus on developing the relationships to foster true inclusion and acceptance, which also helps reduce negative behaviors. The program breaks down stereotypes & encourages acceptance & understanding.  Students in special education begin to feel part of their school community & their peers increase in maturity, self-confidence, and respect for individuals w/ disabilities.
